Month: February 2014
Hi all, I hope you all are doing very well!
Before to start, this is actually an out of topic post but i wanted to tell about this project because this is also a scaled and planned structure. And as an architect of this cat tree, I would be really happy to share these with you.
The story is started with a need of special space for my friend’s cat named “THE CAT”. Because he, the cat, had no space or platform to jump on and also sleep there -cats always need a closed or enclosed space to sleep or a high platform in a house to feel secured-. So we looked for different types of cat trees and houses but after this research we were shocked about the prices. because for even a small scaled tree or house, you need 1.200 to 2.500 Turkish Liras. We all agreed about the exaggerated pricesand then looked for different solutions.
As you can guess, we all agreed on making our cat tree by ourselves with a low cost, and then begin to design. The needed platforms and levels were 4 different leves as we agreed: 1 to jump and sleep, another to enclose and sleep, another to play and jump and the last to stratch and sleep.
For the metarial library -also im sharing for you to make you know more about the things you need- we needed long lenghted 4 post-tubes, 120 meters of string, 5 m2 of polar fleece and 2 m2 of plush fleece, a resistant material for platforms (wood, hard boxes, isolation foam etc.) and hard silicon gun to fix.
By the way, now we earn our money from these houses by selling them around 400-700 Turkish Liras, which makes this project my very first job. 🙂
Here is the gallery of finished version, thank you all, have fun..
In Friday’s Architectural Design Class we had a trip to our nwe site, which will be a tophographic base for 4th semester’s project. Before beggin to tell you more about the project and the site, I want to introduce you the an initial gallery with some photos of the basic structure that we are given.
Now let’s have more about the context.
Actually the site is this time (comparing to the 3th semester’s) a site that is placed on a tophography which has an incremental characteristic. As an effect of this situation our site has huge tophographic differentiations even in a small parcell.
As a placement of the structure, we have 3 sides which are South, West and East façades because of the house built next to it. In this step I son’t know if we will consider this structure to develop or we will only use the parcell and dimensions, but because i have only basic knowledge of the project in this step, i prefer to introduce you the existing issues.
The house (as you see not a completed one) we are given as an initial survey, is constructed next to a road and beginning from the road and continuing to the garden the tophography shows a decremental characteristic. The vegetation has directly similar characteristics to the Ankara’s climate which means not very tall trees or not a dominant green colour. Usually yellow and yellowish colours are dominant together with short and middle height plants and vegetables.
The site has more dominantly man made impression, but to be honest it has also much natural qualities still. around the house (in a closer scale), there are two ways that are including car traffic. but around the house there is lack of pedestrian traffic. As a proof of this situation, we had so much difficulties about reaching to the places next to house. Because the environment is still in only parcells. only half of the parcells are built now. But It’s obvious that the traffic around the house is really important for us because the way is totally next to the parcell.
Well, this is all for now.
thank you, with the best,
Before to start i have to mention that the first assignment taht given to us is a really nice and useful one. Because it includes 24 houses of different architects and architecture offices, which are to analyse with specific keyconcepts in a diagrammatic manner.
My choices for the assignment was:
1.MVRDV – Two Houses on Borneo Sporenburg (18th parcell)
2.Herzog & de Meuron – House in Kamlich/Kramlich House
3.Kazuyo Sejima – Okuryama Apartments
4.Shigeru Ban – Wall-Less House (Curtain Wall House)
5.UN Studio – Möbius House
6.Le Corbusier – Villa Cruchet
7.Tadao Ando – Azuma House
8.Curiosity & Miligram Studio – C1 House
9.Peter Eisenman – HOUSE I
10.BIG – Honeycomb
Also we had 3 different reaidngs on architecture to make us have a deeper knowledge on architectural terminology for this assignment and term. Because of focusing so much on readings and trying to complete them till discussion day, I had only 2 sketches of diagrammatic drawings by the way. A note for me, next time some of the drawings may be shifted to next class, sketches are more important!
Here is the one we discussed. The critics are given below the image.
As the houses that are choosen for my work are including many different spatial conditions, I considered analysing different types of spatial boundries that are defined in structures and buildings through client use after the critics of today. Also I realized that i had a problem about what are the qualities of a diagrammatic analyses and hand sketch, also the difference between them, because the sketch that i have prepared was not a diagrammatic one. It was an abstract analyses of the general design. So for the next time I will remember that diagram means less lines and reduced focuses. So as a conclusion, my mission for the next time is to have different rich spatial boundries defining different spaces and functions, together with special focuses to the 3 different tpes of considered qualities.
Today I had my 4th semester’s first course, as a beginning of human scaled and applicable projects. For the first course “because of us architects need the process always in our hands” todays course was expecting a submission for a sketchbook, which will be including all the process to make the whole easier to handle.
The actual name of the expected sketchbook is Accordion Sketchbook, which takes it name because of it’s general design also which is the reason for the instructors to choose this style of documenting: continuity & easiness of process management.
The criterias that I considered were;
2_durability (being resistant against foldings, ink etc: a material based resistancy)
3_having a systematic which would make the book extendible in length and height and having a unit of folded paper for using in extensions properly, which repeats itself in again height and length.
4_having a common size which would fit to global paper sizes.
The gallery of my design is given below for you, a simple and useful way to design an ADS. The pages are A5 sized (the pen would give you the scale i hope) with folded Canson cartridge because i feel more comfortable while sketching by ink, but it is up to you to have another type of papers or adding more. By using two or three pages next to each other together, you will also have A4, A3 and bigger sized working spaces too. Also not to forget folding the coloured coverage cartridge if you want more resistant hard cover, because as we all know, it musn’t be there only for the colour, it has to be first for protecting it from deformations.
